Volunteer leaders are key to the success of any nonprofit organization. At Women In Distress, we are fortunate to have a long history of committed volunteers who have helped guide and grow our agency.
We want to thank two exceptional volunteer leaders who each completed two terms (six years) on our board in June.
Anne Chervony is President of Risk Management Services – BFC Financial Corp. and involved with other BBX Capital companies including Bluegreen Vacations and other entities founded by the Levan family and its partners over three decades. Anne served on our Executive Committee as Corporate Secretary and lent her expertise in the area of property insurance and risk management. Her background as an attorney was also helpful. As she learned more about our mission, she reached out to many others, encouraging them to join her in supporting WID. Whether it was donating bikes during the holiday, reviewing insurance portfolios, or setting up meetings with companies and foundations, Anne was always there to answer the call. She had a great ability to speak up – quietly and effectively – in board discussions to keep us focused on our mission now, and planning for the future.
Kathleen Grace also completed two terms on our board and shared her expertise as a financial planner and managing director of a United Capital office that provides a broad range of financial services to individual clients, family offices and private foundations. Kathleen served as a member of the Executive Committee and lent her expertise to the Budget/Management Committee. She opened many new avenues of support. Her eye was always on ways to expand support for WID and help women achieve financial independence. Kathleen supported every drive, campaign and event. She supported holiday drives, back-to-school campaigns, our annual Charity Golf Tournament and Starfish luncheon – often sharing those experiences with her now- teen daughter. And, in her spare time, she is a best-selling author of “Prince Not So Charming.”
