Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. currently operates a 100 bed, 24-hour emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. Survivors who are no longer safe in their homes can find a safe haven at Women In Distress. Shelter services include safe housing, crisis intervention, therapy and advocacy assistance. Women In Distress is committed to serving all living in unsafe situations because of domestic violence, including those with special needs. Our services are also available to male survivors and those with disabilities.

Through our shelter program, victims of domestic violence and their children are stabilized in a safe environment and provided with supportive services, helping participants to build and sustain independence in a violence-free space. Women In Distress’ services are designed to address individual needs and empower participants to establish independence.

Shelter Environment

Women In Distress centers its efforts in providing an environment that will help survivors recover from the traumatic effects of victimization and develop an understanding and awareness of the dynamics of domestic violence. This is accomplished by empowering them to gain independence and self-sufficiency. The participant’s stay in our programs is determined by his or her individual needs.

Through Women In Distress’ programs and services, survivors are able to receive safety, support, and learn how to become empowered to make their own decisions. Women In Distress helps them achieve new violence-free lives. Upon exiting shelter, participants may continue accessing outreach support services.
