About the Event
Over 1,200 community members consisting of 75+ teams, individual walkers and runners take to the pavement to raise awareness about domestic violence and to raise funds for the much needed programs and services which Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. offers to victims of domestic violence in our community.
Each walker and runner is asked to raise a minimum of $200 in donations which can provide two nights of safe shelter for an adult or child fleeing from an abusive home (this is a suggested goal and is not mandatory). By asking friends, colleagues, family members, and neighbors to sponsor you in the event, you will be making a difference in the life of a victim of domestic violence.
Do you have a group of five or more people interested in walking or running? Form a team! All teams will have the opportunity to take a team photo at the event and walk/run with a team sign.
Purple Heart Project: This year we are introducing a new element – the Purple Heart. To honor someone who has been affected by domestic violence, we will offer purple hearts for walkers and runners to wear during the event as a tribute and symbol of their courage.
