About the Event
Each October, in honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, over 1,500 community members consisting of 75+ teams, individual walkers and runners take to the pavement to raise awareness about domestic violence and to raise funds for the much needed programs and services which Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. offers to victims of domestic violence in our community.
Each walker and runner is asked to raise a minimum of $200 in donations (this is a suggested goal and is not mandatory). By asking friends, colleagues, family members, and neighbors to sponsor you in the event, you will be making a difference in the life of a victim of domestic violence. Teams are groups of five or more people interested in participating.
This fun event is officially timed and awards are given to top finishers. All registrants receive a free breakfast and event t-shirt, as well as the opportunity to visit vendors in our Vendor Village. By participating in the event, you too can take a step to end domestic violence!
WID will provide accommodations, including American Sign Language interpreters, assistive listening devices, alternative formats of printed materials and real-time captioning upon request for persons who are deaf, hard of hearing or are living with disabilities. To ensure accommodations, please make your request within 7 days prior to the event to Audrey Nunez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Take Your Involvement A Step Further
been affected by domestic violence, we will offer purple
hearts for walkers and runners to wear during the event
as a tribute and symbol of their courage.
Dog Walk: For the third year, we are pleased to bring back a special registration type for dogs! All funds raised through this $10 registration fee will help build our new Pet Shelter to provide a safe place for pets of domesticviolence victims who reside in our shelter.
