|The Project SAFE Place Capital Campaign seeks to raise $5 million in order to expand all services at the new Jim & Jan Moran Family Center located in Deerfield Beach – opened in summer 2011.
In recent years, Women In Distress was only able to shelter one out of every three domestic violence victims in need because shelter space was at or over capacity. To address the increased needs of our growing community, in 2008 Women In Distress embarked on the largest capital expansion program in the history of the organization. As a result, emergency shelter has increased from 62 beds to 100 currently – with the capacity to grow to 132 beds.
In addition to increased shelter space, outreach and counseling services have also expanded in order to meet the increased number of families we are now able to serve. The new 6.4 acre Jim & Jan Moran Family Center also offers special enhancements such as a dental clinic, family therapy room, Broward Sheriff’s Office substation, and much more!
Women In Distress is committed to providing a safe place extending beyond women, men and children to include very important family members that also face the effects of domestic violence…pets! As a future, second phase of the capital expansion, a pet shelter will be built. The shelter will provide a temporary safe environment for the pets of domestic violence victims who reside at the new shelter location.
We invite you to celebrate in our success achieved over the past year – success that was only made possible with the support from so many of you, our Capital Campaign donors and 100 Men Initiative members, as well as our annual donors, community partners, funders, volunteers, supporters, and friends. Thank you for your continuous support in helping our community and for believing in our mission to stop domestic violence abuse for everyone.
