thank you to our sponsors and supporters who attended the 10th annual starfish luncheon.
your commitment is making a difference!
This year marked the 10th Anniversary of the Starfish Luncheon. In celebration of this milestone, Women In Distress recognized 10 survivors who represent the thousands of women, children and men whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence.
The Starfish Luncheon, with presenting sponsors JM Family Enterprises/Southeast Toyota Distributors and ADT, was held on Wednesday, May 18 at the Signature Grand with a goal of raising awareness of how domestic abuse can happen to anyone regardless of age, race, gender identification, and status.
The theme of the event, “Making A Difference,” shared the message of how each of us can make a difference one person at a time. With WSVN-TV’s Robbin Simmons as emcee, more than $250,000 was raised, which will help provide critical funding for programs and emergency shelter to survivors and their families.
Since 1974, Women In Distress has provided free and confidential services to the community that include a 24-Hour Crisis Hotline, counseling and therapy for adults and children, referrals to other services such as legal help and healthcare, a 132-bed emergency shelter, and provides education and prevention programs community wide.
