Women In Distress' cell phone fundraiser program is sponsored by Shelter Alliance, a program of cell phone recycling company GRC Wireless Recycling. Through Shelter Alliance, Women In Distress raises more than $30,000 annually through the collection and recycling of used cell phones, and through businesses and consumers who donate and recycle cell phones to benefit services to victims of domestic violence.

Cell phones play an integral role in the safety plan of our participants. They allow our participants to dial 911 in case of emergencies. Free pre-paid shipping labels are available for those who collect 20 phones or more. 

Recycling cell phones also helps the environment by saving energy and keeping useable and valuable materials out of landfills and incinerators. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 100 million cell phones are no longer used. If we recycled all of them, we would save enough energy to power 194,000 U.S. homes for a year. GRC Wireless is supporting Women In Distress’ efforts by encouraging their employees to donate and recycle cell phones as a part of their companies dedication to supporting efforts that are good for the environment.
