About Our Cell Phone Drives:
Women In Distress' cell phone fundraiser program is sponsored by Shelter Alliance, a program of cell phone recycling company, GRC Wireless Recycling. Through Shelter Alliance, Women In Distress raises more than $30,000 annually by collecting and recycling used cell phones, most of which are collected by businesses and consumers who are comitted to helping victims of domestic violence.

Cell phones play an integral role in the safety plan of our participants, as they allow our participants to dial 911 in case of emergencies. If you, or your company, would like to conduct a cell phone drive, please contact Development Coordinator Madelyn Reus or call 954-760-9800 ext 1244.

Recycling cell phones also helps the environment by saving energy and keeping useable and valuable materials out of landfills and incinerators. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 100 million cell phones are no longer used. If we recycled all of them, we would save enough energy to power 194,000 U.S. homes for a year. GRC Wireless is supporting Women In Distress’ efforts by encouraging their employees to donate and recycle cell phones as a part of their company's dedication to supporting efforts that are good for the environment.
