QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED
Computer proficiency
Ability to work minimum of 35 hours per week on a flexible schedule
Excellent communication skills – written and oral
Good presentation skills
Ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities
Reliable transportation

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.         Attends agency wide and department meetings (weekly and monthly as appropriate)

2.         Produces monthly reports

3.         Works with other Members, Coordinator and WID staff to engage in community awareness activities.

4.         Attends all training and educational sessions as required by AmeriCorps and             Women In Distress.

5.         Participates in professional development and community service activities such as beach clean up, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, etc.

FIVE SPECIALIZED FOCUSES:

I.           Neighborhood Faith Based Focus
Conducts research to compile databases for various topics, e.g. local ministries, faith and neighborhood based
youth groups and organizations and/or nursing homes.
Utilizes databases to contact groups and organizations to schedule presentations and/or involvement in events.
Assists with development and dissemination of literature addressing domestic and dating violence.
Organizes and participates in Speakers Bureau events

II          School and Youth Focus.   
Prepares and presents anti-violence curricula.  
Grades post-tests and evaluates effectiveness of presentations.
Assists in coordination of a Teen Speakers Bureau
Creates databases for potential sites and contact professionals in the field
Assists in maintenance of a website designed for teens to discuss dating violence.

III        Engaging Men/Boys Focus
Prepares and presents domestic and dating anti-violence curricula to men and boys groups, including high schools, clubs, juvenile boot camps, etc.
Grades post-tests and evaluates effectiveness of presentations.
Assists in coordination of a Teen Speakers Bureau
Creates database of organizations for men and boys including fraternities, clubs, and athletic groups.
Contacts men and boys groups from database to discuss collaborationsand potential for scheduling of presentations.
Assists in maintenance of a website designed for teens to discuss dating violence.

IV.       Research/Legal Focus
Assists in training/ presentations to police and other law enforcement and legal personnel.
Conducts research to compile databases for various topics for presentations to professional groups in need of Continuing Education Units (CEU’s).
Contacts and schedules presentations at local corporations, groups, etc.
Assists with development and dissemination of domestic and dating violence literature for professional organizations.

V.        Media/Technology Focus
Conducts internet research to compile databases for physician’s offices and hospitals to which literature could be distributed.
Conducts internet research related to messaging and ideas from other          
State domestic violence coalitions.
Assists in the maintenance of a Website designed for teens to discuss teen dating violence.
Creates and maintains a blog for the WID Website.
Develops an Avatar Streaming, video and other visually and orally advanced tools on the WID Website.
Creates an interactive video game and/or board game to emphasize positive relationships.
Develops literature about signs of domestic and dating violence for placement in restrooms and public places.
Updates current literature and flyers used by WID to be more visually stimulating.
Assists in the development of “Prevention Kits” to communities for dating and domestic violence prevention.
Drafts brief articles and press release for various media outlets.
